“Recession” - the word strikes fear into the hearts of most small business owners – and with the current downturn described by some as the worst since the Wall Street crash of 1929, for many businesses, there are challenging times ahead. Small businesses may be at a particular risk of losing out during the crunch. “They are vulnerable because often they do not have enough control over their own situation.”

We at ACCESS EN are excited to bring together an esteemed panel of start-up CEO’s and successful entrepreneurs who will share their insights and experiences on surviving and thriving in this tough economic climate.

 

Kirsten Mangers is chief executive officer and co-founder of WebVisible. A recognized small-business advocate, she has delivered on the promise of leveraging the Internet to drive local traffic to local businesses. WebVisible, a global leader in local interactive advertising, blends art and science to ensure local merchants can be found online at anytime, on any device, in order to drive new opportunities through major search engines such as Google, Yahoo! and MSN; online display and video ad networks; and mobile/location-based advertising. Prior to starting WebVisible, she dedicated more than 20 years to shepherding the growth of the local interactive, wireless and yellow pages industries as one of the industry’s early pioneers at GTE, Pacific Bell, SBC, Go2 Systems and Engage Technologies.


Mangers is a sought-after speaker for local interactive media conferences and a volunteer for local and national causes. She is a board member of the Alzheimer’s Association, Chair of the Visionary Women Guild and is a participant in the Newport Harbor High School Mentor Program.

 Dave Key was YouMail's founding CEO. Prior to that, he was Chairman of Zeacom, a leading call center software ISV, and the co-founder and former CEO of FieldCentrix, the leading wireless software and services provider to the field service industry, where he raised $37 million dollars of private and venture capital funds. Dave was a member of the founding team of FileNet, which sold to IBM for $1billion in 2006, where he was responsible for their original software and was the co-inventor of "workflow/business process management" software. Dave is a member of the UC Irvine ICS and the UC Riverside College of Engineering advisory boards, the Ventana Venture Capital Executive Advisory Council, and the Executive Committee of the Tech Coast Angels. He holds a B.A. in Computer Science from UC Riverside and an MBA from UC Irvine.

 Sid Mohasseb is now serving as the Managing Director of Venture Farm LLC; an early stage funding and execution firm. He is also an executive committee member of the Tech Coast Angels; the largest angel network in US with in excess of $85 million dollars of direct investments in over 120 companies with follow-up investments of over $850 million from the Venture Capital community. He also serves on a number of corporate and advisory boards: and Anabasis, Clupedia.com, AccuScore (Orion Data Corp.), Trend Point Systems, Cerius Consulting and LTC Quick Bid. He is also on the advisory board of a number of non-for profit and educational organizations, including Paul Mirage School of Business: University of California at Irvine , The Southern California Technology Council, and TiE.

Phil Ressler is president and chief executive officer. Prior to joining Big Stage, Phil served as vice president at Clearstone Venture Partners, where he provided operating perspective on investment evaluations, decisions and guidance of portfolio companies. Phil has been engaged in building businesses in technology, consumer electronics and advertising sectors since 1979, including 16 years in executive and management positions in software and Internet companies. His technology career is comprised of executive marketing positions in raw start-up, growth-stage and public companies ranging from pre-product, pre-revenue to billion-dollar environments. Phil has been part of executive teams that raised over $100 million in capital for growth companies and he has created market demand for well over $600 million in incremental new product sales in the software sector, in addition to sustaining base revenues.
